“The whole world is out there searching for something to believe in. . . . I don’t believe for a second that people have given up hope. Just the fact that someone gets up in the morning, that means they haven’t given up hope.”
–Latin and Christian music star Jaci Velasquez talked to Q about her faith, which she expresses in her songs. “Whether you believe the same way I do or not, in one way or another, there is a God,” she said.
Velasquez firmly believes God created her to sing. She also co-starred in the movie “Chasing Papi” and will take more roles “if Hollywood sees fit.”

Still, she said, “you can make all the plans you want, but you also have to take what life brings you.”
Life has brought Velasquez to Chicago for Sunday’s “Estrellas de Navidad,” an evening of holiday music. She told Q she was eager to shop in the city but worried about finding restaurants.
“This year, I became a vegan,” she said. “It’s a pain in the rear end. But it was a health thing, and I got tired of seeing animals bleed on people’s tables.”
(Jaci, among restaurants that Tribune restaurant critic Phil Vettel recommends are Blind Faith Cafe in Evanston and the Chicago Diner on Halsted Street.)
