I had a major brain cramp the other night–but was relieved to discover I wasn’t alone.
For a half-hour, I searched my apartment for a bag of Chex Mix I knew I’d bought on the way home from work. Peering across counters and tables, peeking under chairs and dogs, sweeping my hand across every available surface, I came up with nothing but dust bunnies and dog hair.
Maybe I had just thought about buying the bag but didn’t. But I was so sure . . . Maybe it was one more indication that I was indeed losing my creaky old mind.
Man, my head hurt.
The next night, a friend called. “Did you leave a bag of Chex Mix here when you stopped by last night after work?”
I slapped myself upside the head (which could explain a lot). “So that’s where I left it!”
She laughed. “Good thing! This bag appeared out of nowhere, and I had no memory of buying it. I figured I had finally lost my mind.”
What are friends for but to drive you crazy, or at least grab the wheel and help steer?
