Here’s how tough it was Saturday night for running back Jason Wright, who cramped up badly even while rushing 41 times for 196 yards and four touchdowns in the Wildcats’ season-opening win over Kansas. “The calves went, the forearms went, the neck went, so I had to take some plays off,” he said after receiving postgame intravenous fluids. “I didn’t realize I had that many carries.” . . . Wright, from Diamond Bar, Calif., sparkled against the Jayhawks even though the game was played in conditions that fluctuated between a steady drizzle and a downpour. “I’m not used to that,” he said. “Like the song says, `It never rains in Southern California.’ But it was more a running back’s kind of atmosphere. I kind of took the challenge, tried to step up.”
