One of two men sought in a fatal Joliet drive-by shooting last week was arrested Friday in Colorado, police said.
Corzell Cole, 19, of the 500 block of Bellarmine Drive, Joliet, was arrested as he left a nightclub about 4 a.m. in Colorado Springs, said Joliet Police Chief David Gerdes.
Cole and Travaris T. Guy, 22, of the 400 block of South Water Street, Joliet, are charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in the Nov. 1 shooting that killed David Woods, 39, and critically injured his daughter, Sheena, 19. She was discharged from St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet this week.
“Police on a routine monitoring of a club last night in Colorado Springs knew about our warrant for Cole and arrested him as he was leaving the place,” Gerdes said, adding he was arrested without incident and was not armed.
Police are seeking Cole’s extradition and expect him to be returned to Joliet next week.
Warrants charging Cole and Guy with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder were issued the night of the shooting. The warrants carry $5 million bonds each.
The Woodses were shot after a car pulled alongside their van while it was stopped at a light at Jefferson Street and Midland Avenue. Several shots were fired into their vehicle, police said.
Meanwhile, Joliet police Friday were seeking a suspect in another drive-by shooting Thursday in which two men were wounded.
Christian Nole, 19, and Blake Tillery, 20, were taken to Silver Cross Hospital after police found them wounded in the 100 block of 3rd Avenue at Sherman Street. Nole was shot in the back, and Tillery was shot in his left knee.
