The Children’s Penny Cinema Series at the DuSable Museum is presenting films focusing on the African-American experience.
The movies include “Night John,” about a young slave who discovers the meaning of freedom when a new slave named Night John teaches her how to read, for ages 12 to 16, Wednesday; “The Amistad Revolt,” about the Africans who took charge of the boat that was taking them to America, for ages 13 and up, July 10; “Roots of Resistance,” about the railroad to freedom, for ages 13 and up, July 11; “Roots: The Gift,” which depicts how two enslaved friends give the gift of freedom to other slaves, for ages 10 and up, July 17; “Booker,” a docudrama about the founding of the Tuskegee Institute, for ages 10 and up, July 18.
