Historical figures drop in for punch and cookies

What better way to celebrate President’s Day than to share punch and cookies with the likes of Abraham Lincoln, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Dolly Madison, Eleanor Roosevelt and Jacqueline Kennedy? The Chicago Children’s Museum at Navy Pier is hosting a stellar gathering of former presidents and first ladies (portrayed by museum staffers).

Beginning at 2 p.m. Monday in the museum’s Great Hall, children can make their own campaign buttons (“If I were president, I would…”). At 3, they can collect autographs and facts from each president and first lady. Admission for non-members is $6.50, $5.50 for seniors. Call 312-464-7691.

Robot Rolie ready for spring

Is it too early to start thinking about spring? The Disney Channel’s “Rolie Polie Olie” bounces onto home video Tuesday with “An Easter Egg-Stravaganza” ($13). Robot Rolie and his family and friends await the arrival of the Springy Chicken and chase rainbows in this 24-minute collection of three sunny stories from the colorful animated series based on William Joyce’s books.

It’s never too early to start pretending. The age-old question “What do I want to be when I grow up?” is given the Barney treatment in “You Can Be Anything” ($15), also in video stores Tuesday.

Pick a baby dolphin’s name

What’s in a name? The Brookfield Zoo’s dolphin calf, born last fall, wouldn’t know. He still doesn’t have one. This is the last week that the public can vote on one of seven names the zoo staff has come up with: Arion, Canova, Dania, Marco, Micco, Myakka and Wabasso.

Entry forms are available at the zoo or online at www.brookfieldzoo.org. First prize is behind-the-scenes access for four at the zoo’s Seven Seas Dolphinarium, including on-deck seating for a show.

The contest ends Friday, and the winner — to be drawn from those who voted for the winning name — will be announced Feb. 26. For more information, call 708-485-0263, ext. 335.
