In conjunction with an exhibition at the Block Museum of paintings by Jacob Lawrence depicting the life of Toussaint L’Ouverture, who helped found the Republic of Haiti, the office of African American Student Affairs is presenting the film “Sugar Cane Alley,” directed by Euzhan Palcy. The 1984 movie is set in Martinique during the 1930s and chronicles the sacrifices of a grandmother who is trying to make a better life for her grandson. “Sugar Cane Alley,” 7 p.m. Tuesday, Pick-Laudati Auditorium, Block Museum, 1967 S.
