It isn’t just a crossword puzzle game anymore. The National Scrabble Association has developed an activity-books series called “Scrabble Fun,” in cooperation with publisher Houghton Mifflin.

The books are designed to help children ages 3-12 learn skills fundamental to success, including reading, language arts, math and critical thinking. The series is divided into three education levels: preschooler (ages 3-5), primary (ages 6-8) and intermediate (ages 9-12). Nine books were released in August, with nine more (three for each level) to be released this fall.

The books are 32 pages, plus a tear-out sheet of 70 tiles. The books retail for $3.95.
