Man gets prison for sex with boy
A 29-year old Rolling Meadows man convicted of sexually abusing a DuPage County teenager over a seven-month period in 1999 was sentenced Thursday to 3 1/2 years in prison.
A jury convicted Leonard Bertini Jr. last month of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 14-year old boy, whom he had befriended in 1999.
Assistant State’s Atty. Michael Reidy asked for a lengthy prison sentence, saying that “Bertini groomed [the boy], bought him things and treated him like a sex toy.”
The situation came to light when the youth confided to a school counselor.
Bertini admitted to the relationship but always contended that it was consensual.
But Circuit Judge Kathryn Creswell said, “There is no way a 14-year old can consent to these multiple occurrences.”
