When a child is missing or injured, panicky parents sometimes have trouble passing along correct information to authorities. Enter the “Child ID Kit,” available at Wal-Mart stores for less than $2.
The primary item is a small card to fill out with critical information, such as the child’s height, weight and birthdate and medical information, including allergies, a doctor’s phone number and insurance numbers. A self-adhering laminate is included to protect the card from damage.
The kit even includes instructions for taking and storing a DNA sample for identification that’s more accurate than fingerprints.
The kits are expected to be available through Walgreen’s drugstores soon. For those without a nearby Wal-Mart or Walgreen’s, the kits may be purchased (at a slightly higher price) online through www.child-idkit.com for $2.99.
