A 262-room hotel designed for people who use O’Hare International Airport received preliminary approval by the Des Plaines City Council.

A developer plans to build a nine-story Hilton Garden Inn on 3.3 acres occupied by the Forest-Vue Bowling Alley, 2930 River Rd., said Robert Zache, president of Middleton, Wis.-based Central Place Real Estate.

Aldermen voted last week to back the project.

Zache said his company represents Raymond Management Co. of Madison, Wis., which owns hotels in Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri.

The Zoning Board of Appeals and City Council must vote on the final project. Developers last week told the committee of the whole that the first guests could check in within about two years.

Forest-Vue Bowling has been in business since the mid-1960s but is under contract to sell the property to McShane Corp. of Rosemont, another broker in the deal, officials said.

Zache’s preliminary proposal calls for a restaurant, lounge, meeting rooms and 246 parking places.

Zoning variations for height and parking slots must be approved.
