A DuPage County judge ordered a 39-year-old Naperville man held without bond after the fugitive turned himself in to be sentenced for slashing the throat of a tavern bouncer, authorities said.
Jeffrey Trice, 39, failed to show up Jan. 4, when he was to be sentenced to a 5-year prison term for the 1999 slashing, authorities said. In October he pleaded guilty to aggravated battery in an agreement that called for the 5-year sentence, but then refused to appear, authorities said. Last week, he turned himself in to county law-enforcement officials.
Prosecutors earlier dropped an attempted murder charge, which carries a 6- to 30-year prison sentence. They are now asking Judge Ann Jorgensen to allow them to reinstate those charges, as well as place new charges for not showing up for his sentencing, authorities said.
According to police, the bouncer had removed several of Trice’s friends and family members from the bar, and Trice retaliated by attacking the bouncer and cutting his throat with a stiletto.
