The folks at GE Lighting offer these holiday lighting tips and ideas:
– The best way to light the holiday tree is from top to bottom, wrapping strands around the tree. And of course, test the strands before you string them up.
– To increase access to indoor outlets, especially around furniture, use a cord that “splits” at the plug, forming two separate cords from one outlet.
– Use an indoor lamp foot switch to eliminate the bending required to plug in tree lights.
– Simple can be beautiful. For easy outdoor decorating, consider using colored floodlights directed toward the house or trees.
– Get an outdoor switch timer not just for holiday lighting, but for year-round use. Look for a system–mechanical or digital–that turns on at dusk and then off automatically at a preselected time.
– Consider lighting outdoor wreaths with sets of battery-operated LED lights. These last up to 10,000 hours, which is 10 times longer than conventional battery-operated miniature light sets.
