A preliminary map for a bicycle-path network in New Lenox has been sketched, a village planner announced last week.

The next step in the process involves meeting with officials from the Will County Forest Preserve District and the New Lenox Park District, Robin Ellis, a planning and development administrator for the village, said.

Possible bicycle-path locations should be coordinated with the Park District’s long-term park development plan, Ellis said.

Village officials want developers to include open space and bicycle-path locations in their plans, she said.

A path network will make it easier for children to get to parks without cutting through homeowners’ yards, Trustee Annette Bowden said. “You have to make it easy to access [parks] without trespassing on private property,” she said.
