The Village Board could pay up to $40,000 to make Geils Stadium the home field for Fenton High School’s baseball team.

Fenton officials asked the village to change the Redmond Park facility so it can accommodate baseball games as well as youth and adult softball games, Public Works Director Paul Quinn said recently. He presented a quote from Vans Enterprises of Mundelein, an athletic field construction firm that has worked at Comiskey Park and Elfstrom Stadium, to resod the infield, restore the base paths and add a base path for $27,000.
It would cost the Public Works Department another $13,000 to move the fences back 15 feet to meet baseball standards and to move the underground sprinklers out of the new base paths, Quinn said. “I realize this is a lot of money to upgrade the field, but it’s a great resource for the community,” he said.
Fenton officials have not offered to pay any of the costs to upgrade the softball field, but Quinn said he did not consider that when preparing his presentation to the Village Board. “Fenton High School is part of Bensenville,” he said. “The direction the board has given me is to give the community as much access to our recreational facilities as possible.”
