The cameras are rolling in the Council Chambers in Elmhurst City Hall.
The microphones are on, and the two screens flanking the dais display charts and computerized presentations big enough to be seen in the back corner of the room.
But residents aren’t seeing any of it on their government access cable channels this month. That’s because the city is holding test runs of its new broadcast system before airing meetings live starting Nov. 6.
“We’ve taped a couple of meetings using the equipment, and I must say it looks very good,” said Mayor Thomas Marcucci.
Aldermen voted in July to buy the $37,000 broadcast system and $54,000 video display system, both of which were installed in September.
Once the City Council starts broadcasting meetings, videotaped editions will be available in the Elmhurst Public Library for the 35 percent of Elmhurst residents who don’t subscribe to cable TV service. Meeting broadcasts later will be uploaded to the Internet.
