A child care center in the LaGrange Ridge Business Park was approved by the Mokena Village Board Monday.
Dr. Jalal and Miriam Jato plan to build a two-story child care center on a 30,530-square-foot lot at 19218 Ridge Drive.
The building will have a main level and a lower level with classrooms for various age groups, an indoor playground, a kitchen and a conference room. A fenced play area will be built outdoors.
The Jatos said they hope to have the center built and open for business by spring.
“I like the idea of a day care center out there with the office buildings,” Trustee Frank Fleischer said.

But Fleischer said he wants to be sure the plan includes ample green space. “I don’t want to have all these buildings closing in on the kids,” he said.
In other business, trustees agreed to reduce the landscape easement along Townline Road in the St. Mark’s subdivision from 15 feet to 5 feet.
The landscaping in the area is close to the roadway, and some of the lots are small, said Alan Zordan, community development director. The change will allow residents more flexibility, Zordan said.
“There was a lot of land that couldn’t be used. This allows residents to reclaim some of their land,” Mayor Robert Chiszar agreed.
