Results of voting for the school colors and mascot that will signify a new identity at Lincoln-Way High School’s east campus in New Lenox will be announced Friday.
A preliminary vote narrowed color combinations to three: cobalt blue and black, silver and black and Vegas gold and black. Mascot choices carry out a medieval theme and include mythical beasts, such as dragons, and royal titles, such as monarchs and barons.
Students from Mokena, Frankfort and Frankfort Square, who will graduate from the east campus, got a long lead time for picking the colors and mascot so athletic uniforms and school jackets will be ready when the Frankfort campus, now attended by freshmen and sophomores, becomes a separate four-year high school next fall.
The Lincoln-Way central campus, now attended by juniors and seniors, is the school district’s original building and it will keep the red and black school colors and Knights nickname and mascot when it becomes a separate high school attended by students from New Lenox and Manhattan.
The two school buildings have been undergoing a massive remodeling project to prepare for the split that will provide a rapidly growing student body with more space.
Academic wings with 50 classrooms and aquatic centers with swimming pools were added to both buildings.
A new auditorium was added to the central campus building, and additional athletic fields were built.
