A developer on Monday night told the Des Plaines City Council he will meet with Jewel-Osco officials June 13 in an effort to bring the retail operations to a proposed 10.7-acre downtown retail development.

The development would be roughly bounded by Pearson and Lee Streets and the alley of Miner Street.

Marty Norkett, of Evanston-based Scribcor Capital Development, said plans for the development are “very preliminary.”

He maintained his company “could break ground in November because the property we’re talking about is mostly vacant.”

Norkett said that before the deal could proceed, his company would need to buy Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., and an unspecified single-family home and raze the structures.

The developer would also need to work out a financing arrangement with the city sometime after an appraisal of the property is released later this week, Norkett said.

Any deal would require approval of the City Council, officials said.

The project could feature 650 spaces of underground parking and a 150-space lot adjacent to a grocery-drugstore anchor tenant.
