The New Lenox Village Board has approved an intergovernmental agreement with Metra, the regional agency that operates commuter trains, that will eventually add more than 500 new parking spaces at the commuter station just north of U.S. Highway 30.
Village Administrator Russ Loebe said Tuesday that Metra will begin the first phase of the project this year, adding an additional 260 parking slots on land directly east of the current parking lot.
The second phase of the construction work will add another 275 spaces, Loebe said.
Residents often complain about parking, Loebe said.
