Lack of interest or hunger? Early birds got plenty to eat–but no worms–at the three 7-8:30 a.m. breakfasts held to introduce candidates for superintendent of Hinsdale Elementary District 181.

An invitation to enjoy continental cuisine, courtesy of the district, was issued for a Monday, a Wednesday and the following Tuesday (a different finalist was featured each morning), but ordering the right amount of food proved a stickler.

“It was the district’s first effort in this regard,” said Sharon Henderson, spokeswoman. “Reservations weren’t required, so we were flying blind about how many to plan for.”

The first event drew 10 people, including two reporters. Leftovers were shoved in the freezer and trotted out for the dozen or so folks who attended the second and third sessions.

The low turnout might have meant most people couldn’t spare the time. On the other hand, maybe they just weren’t hungry.
