player ready...An eyeful through the iron: Flower fanciers who like to peek through Trudi Temple’s wrought iron fence in Oak Brook for a glimpse of her fabulous gardens won’t have to wait until spring for a look at the colorful tulips, trillium, buttercups, phlox and redbud trees.
Country Living magazine has captured last year’s crop on a half-dozen pages of its March issue, now on the newsstands.
Temple, founder of Itasca-based Market Day Corp. frozen foods, has tended and refined her plantings since 1964, building a series of outdoor “rooms.” When famished deer began nibbling the fruits of her labor a few years ago, she received special permission from the village to erect the six-foot-high fence, choosing wrought iron because “It lets in more light than a board fence would,” she says.
What’s more, it compliments her chalet-style dwelling and provides passersby with an eyeful of beauty, spring through fall.
