Residents of the Marley Creek subdivision are about to get a long-awaited park, thanks to a land donation from a developer.

Mokena Park Board President Tom Canna told the planning commission recently that negotiations have been completed with a developer who is planning a subdivision.

Canna said the land provided by the developer of the proposed Avondale Estates subdivision comprises 5.6 acres south of Jacob Drive and will include a playground and ball fields.

The park will serve Avondale Estates and Marley Creek, which have been waiting for a park since a ballot question passed two years ago.

A public hearing on Avondale Estates, a subdivision near Marley Creek, was continued until this month.
