Park commissioners this week approved a design for a proposed recreation center.
The plan, presented by architect Patrick Brosnan, includes a gymnasium, a running track, gymnastics and dance studios, an aerobics room and a playroom.
With town growth spurring a demand for recreational activities, park commissioners say they need a large recreation center. “I don’t see this building getting any smaller,” Commissioner Patrick McKenna said.
Brosnan estimated that construction costs and fees for the proposed 79,800-square-foot building will be about $10.9 million. The district wants to build the center in the New Lenox Commons area south of U.S. Highway 30 and north of Village Hall on Haven Avenue.
