A sentencing date for convicted killer Edward L. Tenney is on hold indefinitely until a series of post-trial motions can be heard.

On Monday, when Tenney, 38, was to have been sentenced in the January 1993 murder of Aurora Township widow Virginia Johannessen, lawyers received the transcripts from about half the court proceedings of another murder for which Tenney has been convicted.

Last year, a Kane County jury found Tenney guilty of slaying dairy heiress Jill Oberweis in October 1993 in her Aurora home.

In September, another jury convicted Tenney of the Johannessen murder and ruled him eligible for the death penalty.

Kane County Circuit Judge Donald C. Hudson on Monday ordered a status hearing for Dec. 28 and said a date for hearing post-trial motions would be set during that hearing.

Tenney is awaiting trial in DuPage County for the 1992 murder of 24-year-old Jerry Weber, who was found shot to death along an Aurora roadside.
