Police officers will get raises totaling nearly 8 percent over two years as part of a contract approved recently by the Village Board.

Salaries of first-year officers will go from $33,973 this year to $35,198 during the second. Officers with eight or more years of experience will see salaries go from $50,132 this year to $52,087 next year. All raises will be retroactive to May 1, when the previous agreement expired.

The new contract expires April 30, 2000.

Officers will have to contribute an additional 5 percent per month toward the cost of their dependents’ medical insurance. The village will continue to pay insurance costs for an officer with no dependents.

In September, a federal mediator was brought in after six months of bargaining between the village and the 45-member Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council Lodge 52. Agreement was reached in October.
