The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $400,000 grant to the Kane County Forest Preserve District to be used for acquisition of land in northern Kane, district President Jack Cook said Tuesday.
Commissioners plan to buy 646 acres near Pingree Grove, a tract that contains important habitats for birds, officials said. When completed, the property will contain a restored prairie, savanna, marsh and open water.
