Citing limited space and potential traffic hazards, the Glendale Heights Plan Commission voted Tuesday night to recommend that the village reject a request for a special-use permit that would allow a Montessori child-care center to operate in the central part of town.

Robert Ristich, chairman of the Plan Commission, said that though he believed the school would be an asset to the community, “It’s on the site of an accident waiting to happen.”
Operators planned to open the school in an office area at 1756 Bloomingdale Rd., across from Polo Club Drive at Placid Avenue.
The panel sent its negative recommendation to the Village Board, which is expected to take up the issue next week.
Police officials had said there were likely to be problems with parents picking up and dropping off children at the proposed school along heavily traveled Bloomingdale Road.
Corazon Calma of Bloomingdale, who sought permission to operate the school, had told the commission that she had expected about 20 children 3 to 6 years old to attend the facility.
