Nearly 30 developers turned out for a meeting with the New Lenox Village Board Development and Land Use Committee late Thursday afternoon.

According to Village Trustee Dave Smith, informing developers in advance of the board’s requirements should head off conflicts.

A comprehensive plan recently adopted by the board marked a change in open-space requirements, with the mandated amounts of open-space donations increasing as development moves from the center of town. The plan calls for 40 percent open space in some areas on the edges of town. The plan is designed to maintain the village character, said Carrie Hansen, planning and development administrator.

The village tree-planting program is still a learning experience, Hansen said, and trees that did not survive the summer will be replaced. She said that letting developers know the number and types of trees required to be planted in parkways will help them plan their subdivisions.

Smith said that if lots in newer subdivisions are vacant after two years, builders should remove debris and seed the area.
