The Lincoln-Way School District 210 board on Thursday night approved a $31.9 million budget for the 1998-99 school year.

Growth is keeping the district’s budget in the black, according to schools Supt. Lawrence Wyllie.

Of the revenue expected to come into the school district, $27.9 million is earmarked for the three operating funds: education, transportation and building.

Expenses will not outpace revenues, he said.

Student enrollment is climbing and expenses are going up, but so is the assessed valuation of homes in the district; home values have been increasing 8 percent to 9 percent a year.

Expenses will go up more in 2001 when the district splits into two schools, but the superintendent said he does not foresee the separation causing serious financial problems.

He said two circumstances could upset future district finances: a decrease in the amount of state aid received or a slowdown in population growth.
