Anyone who grew up in a Chicago bungalow remembers the narrow gangways between the homes, close enough to get an eyeful if neighbor’s curtains weren’t closed.
That concept of closeness could make a comeback in Tinley Park, but with town homes designed to thwart prying eyes.
Plan commissioners recently voted to recommend that the Village Board grant preliminary approval to rezone land at Interstate Highway 80 and Oak Park Avenue to allow multifamily units rather than single-family homes.
West Point Builders and Developers of Willowbrook hope to build 225 detached town homes on 40 acres there.
Shawn Hankins, attorney for West Point, said marketing studies show a demand for such units that combine the convenience of a town home with greater privacy.
The units would range from 1,425 to 2,375 square feet, Hankins said, and have windows on only three sides to prevent prying eyes.
