Morgan Park coach Zeleda Walker would prefer to play No. 2 Marshall under different circumstances Friday in the championship game of the Marshall tournament. She would like to have starting guards Kenetha Shoulder and Camilla Williams in the lineup.

Neither has played this year because of knee injuries, and they aren’t expected back until January. But the 17th-ranked Mustangs are coping. In Thursday’s third round, they upended Dunbar 60-48 to improve to 5-0.

A sluggish first half gave Morgan Park a 29-26 lead at intermission. But the Mustangs scored the first eight points of the third quarter and the final five of the period to put the game away. Jasmin Moore, whose playing time has increased because of the injuries, scored nine of her 13 points in the decisive third quarter. Constance Jinks led Morgan Park with 24 points and six steals.

“The other girls have been filling in well for Kenetha and Camilla,” Zeleda said. “They’re kind of tired, but they’re up for Marshall. We won’t be able to run with them. We’ll have to slow our game up. We could run with them if we had Kenetha and Camilla.”
