A 67-year-old Mt. Prospect man was struck by a car and killed Thursday night as he was crossing Wolf Road about 500 feet north of Central Road in Des Plaines, police reported.

Richard Lapinski of 112 N. Yates Lane suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines, where he died a short time later, police said.

The case has been reviewed by the Cook County state’s attorney’s office, and no charges will be filed against the driver, Sophie Caronis, 59, according to Des Plaines police.

Caronis, of Mt. Prospect, had just turned onto Wolf from Central and was heading north when the accident occurred, police said.
