Margies Inc., which for the last several weeks has been struggling with financial problems and dealing with angry brides demanding refunds, filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Chicago on Friday.
Margies listed $1.3 million in assets and more than $3 million in liabilities.
The 60-year-old company closed a store in suburban Milwaukee recently. Brides who had ordered dresses through the two remaining stores, in Hoffman Estates and Morton Grove, said they were told by manufacturers that their dresses had not been shipped.
