The Village Board voted recently to grant a five-year tax abatement to a corporation moving from a neighboring town.
Trustees last week approved a 50 percent tax abatement for the Gillette Co. The company is moving from its Bolingbrook location to gain room for expansion, village officials said.
Even with the tax break, the Gillette project will generate revenue for the village, Trustee Ed McCartan said. He said Romeoville stands to gain $42,000 in tax revenue as opposed to the $300 generated by the property’s agricultural use.
Community Development Director Gregory Anderson said the firm employs about 70 people and is expected to hire 50 more.
In other business, trustees received a petition from residents of the Carillon development protesting the practice of charging a minimum water bill based on 2,000 gallons’ use. Henry Arndt of Carillon said billing should be based on actual use.
