Two Lincoln-Way High School athletes were feted Thursday night for their participation on an honored wheelchair basketball team.
Senior Jason Mateski, and junior Matt Minger, both 18, play on a Munster, Ind.-based wheelchair basketball team that took second place at a recent national tournament in Charlotte, N.C.
Supt. Lawrence Wyllie presented the youths with a plaque commemorating their achievements, and the school board gave them a standing ovation.
In other business, the board awarded contracts for summer maintenance work, such as repairing the roofs at the east and central campuses and repaving the outdoor track at the central campus. The roof work will cost $68,831, while the track work will cost $91,000.
Assistant Supt. Joe Davis said that almost half the amount spent on the track will be funded with grant money because the resurfacing project will use recycled tire material.
The school board also voted to buy a school bus for $46,200 and to lease three other buses at a total cost of $48,000 a year.
