The Plan Commission this week approved the design of a planned school and park site in the Laraway Ridge subdivision.
The school and park site will be built on land donated by the developers of two proposed new subdivisions, Laraway Ridge and Windermere Lakes.
The Village Board put the acceptance of the land donations on the fast track last month, so school and park officials could begin developing the site. The New Lenox Elementary District 122 School Board and the New Lenox Park District Board also have approved the plan.
The land donations satisfy the provisions of the village’s comprehensive plan, which requires open space in new subdivisions.
Besides two school buildings–one for primary grades and one for intermediate grades–the site will contain athletic fields and playgrounds.
In other business, commissioners acting as the Zoning Board of Appeals delayed action on a request for construction trailers at Kmart on U.S. Highway 30 until May. No one from the corporation was on hand to explain why they need 10 trailers on the site during a remodeling project.
