Mokena officials have announced that they will seek a grant for improvements at Wolf and LaPorte Roads.

Work planned for the intersection include widening LaPorte Road on the west side of Wolf Road, roadway renovations and storm sewer installation, according to John Downs, the village administrator.

The village has set aside $500,000 toward the total $1.3 million cost, Downs said.

“It’s a two-pronged application,” one for the whole project and one for intersection work only, because funds are limited, he said.

“Competition (for federal Surface Transportation Program grants) is rougher this year,” said Mayor Ron Grotovsky.

The village succeeded in a previous grant request, receiving $350,000 for Wolf Road street lighting in 1993, he said.

Trustees also reviewed license fees and water and sewer rates. Downs recommended license fees and water rates not increase because they seem to bring sufficient revenue at their current levels.
