Robert T. Urbanec, 37, of Arlington Heights was freed on bail from a Wisconsin jail Tuesday night after being charged with a hit-and-run accident that killed a Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputy, authorities said.
Killed in last Saturday’s accident was Deputy Sheriff David Demos. Demos was the brother of Karen Demos-Rosenthal, a Lake Zurich village trustee.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department said Urbanec was driving south on Interstate Highway 43-94 at Chase Avenue on Milwaukee’s south side when his pickup truck veered out of a traffic lane and struck Demos, who was giving a motorist directions.
Police said Urbanec was arrested a short time later in suburban Greenfield near the expressway and south 27th Street by local police.
