Nobody in recent Cubs history has gone on a home run surge like the one Sammy Sosa is riding right now.

Sosa has seven home runs in the last seven games–seven homers in his last 22 at-bats. Four were three-run homers, two were two-run shots and one was a solo blast.

The closest any Cub has come to that kind of binge was in 1990 when Ryne Sandberg had seven homers in a nine-game span from June 5-13 on his way to a 40-homer season.

Sandberg hit six homers in five games in August of 1989 to help lead the Cubs to the division title.

And Andre Dawson hit eight homers in a 12-game stretch from Aug. 12-27 on his way to winning the Most Valuable Player Award and hitting 49 homers in 1987.

Marlin Mauler: Catcher Scott Servais has been on a roll since returning from the disabled list. He is 21 for 53 with seven doubles, six homers and 13 RBIs in 16 games since then. Servais was 2 for 2 with a double and a run driven in against the Marlins Thursday. That was hardly surprising. He is a lifetime .333 hitter (14-for-42) against Florida. This year, he is even better–an amazing 9 for 15 (.600) with seven RBIs. “It’s weird,” said Servais. “I’ve always liked hitting in Joe Robbie Stadium. But up here. I can’t explain it. It sure feels good, though.”
