The village has become the latest DuPage suburb to team up with the Morton Arboretum in Lisle in establishing a tree and plant nursery.

Between 100 and 200 trees and shrubs are scheduled to be planted this week in an unused area near the Naperville Park District’s community garden plots on West Street. The trees and shrubs will be available to community groups for ceremonial plantings and Arbor Day observances beginning in the spring of 1996.

“I’m overjoyed. This nursery is a good move for both the Park District and Morton Arboretum,” said Rocky Jette, a Park District employee who spearheaded the project. “It benefits everyone because it makes the community more aware of trees.”

According to Michael P. Spravka, tree distribution coordinator for the arboretum, plantings will include oaks, maples, lindens, hybrid elms resistant to Dutch elm disease, hazelnuts and viburnums.
