PTA presidents began meeting this week with Elementary District 15 teachers and administrators to address parents’ concerns over next year’s schedule.
The meetings were called by Supt. John Conyers after parents protested a district plan to shorten the school day by 90 minutes each Monday so teachers could work on state-mandated school improvement plans.
“I am confident that as our teachers, parents and principals work together, they can develop positive solutions that address the concerns, while trying to help our teachers with the time they need,” Conyers said in a letter to parents.
The letter was in response to parents’ complaints to the school board. Some expressed concern about children being deprived of instructional time. Others who work wondered who would supervise the children after they are let out early.
The first session was held Monday. “It was a productive discussion of all the issues and concerns out there, said Linda Vass, district director for personnel.
