City crews will begin picking up tree branches Monday that fell during the ice storm.
Street Department Supt. John Dillon said the cleanup has been hampered by frozen debris stuck to the ground.
“We’ve been waiting for things to thaw a little so we can pull the branches out of the ice,” he said. “I don’t think many homeowners have even got around to cleaning up their properties.”
Batavia was hit hard during the storm.
Dillon predicted it would take at least two weeks to collect and break up the debris. The pickup will begin on the west side, which was hit the hardest, and will continue east the following week.
The city is asking homeowners to break branches into a maximum of 10-foot lengths and place them at the curb in the same direction.
