Guard Jason Hodges, the leading scorer on the Chicago State basketball team last season, is ineligible for the first semester because of a snafu over his courses.

Hodges was placed in several general-studies courses that Chicago State required him to take. But the courses are not recognized by the NCAA and Hodges fell one hour short of the number of credits he needed to remain eligible. Hodges, who got a C or better in all his course work and carries a 2.5 grade-point average, is one of eight Cougar athletes to fall victim.

“I’m really upset,” Hodges said. “There’s a stigma attached to being ineligible. It’s not fair. I hate the idea of not playing.”

Coach Rick Pryor appealed to the NCAA, to no avail.

Hodges will miss eight games, returning for the Dec. 22 contest against Eastern Michigan.
