Greater Miami’s crime image seems to hold no terror for condo developers, who report that their market is sizzling throughout Dade County.
At The Waterways in North Dade’s Aventura area, sales are stronger than at any time in the last five years. So, the development is adding the first of five more towers and a row of two-story luxury homes.

President Richard Lamondin reports that in the last two months, the subsidiary of Canadian company Coscan Development has accepted signed contracts for 14 of 60 courtyard homes ranging from $450,000 to $710,000.
“We haven’t lost one sale that we know of from the crime problem,” Lamondin said. The Waterways has closed on 204 units priced at $39.6 million since the start of the year.
Meanwhile, nearing completion of Bristol Towers on Brickell Avenue’s condominium row, developer Ugo Columbo is beginning to close on the pricey apartments in the 40-story building.
Alicia Cervera, whose real estate company is in charge of sales, said nine more units were sold in the 147-unit condo during September, leaving only a dozen more to sell. Prices on the sold units range from $240,000 to $830,000.
