Until the end of the year, the Frontenac will celebrate its centennial with exhibits, gastronomy festivals, guided tours, concerts and a turn-of-the-century picnic. Some highlights:

– An exhibition in the hotel’s Salon Grande Allee features vintage photographs of the Frontenac and its famous guests, along with assorted antiques and memorabilia, including a bill for food and lodging from 1898, when rooms cost $3 and included three meals and afternoon tea.

– Open house for the public will be held May 1-2 and Oct. 9-10. Guided tours of the chateau are planned through the summer.

– A new 66-room wing will open in June, along with a large indoor swimming pool and a fitness center.

– Also in June, a postage-stamp commemorating the centennial will be released.

– Chefs from France and other countries all year long will visit and will cook for guests.

– Room rates through May 16 (double occupancy) range from $109 to $155 a night. Rates rise in the summer. For information, phone 418-692-3861. The fax number is 418-692-1751.
