”Our goal is to make this show the most pleasant and accessible of all the shows, important because of the bad economic year we`re coming off of,”
says Blackman, former director of the Chicago International Art Exposition, better known as ”Art Expo.”
His goal is ”to re-engage the collector in this art market, and the way to do that is to make it as affordable as possible.” He says he is offering booths to exhibitors at relatively bargain rates, ”which we think is going to attract some very strong younger exhibitors as well as the established galleries.”
General admission will be $10 per ticket. The show will run May 5-10 at Chicago`s Cityfront Centre at Illinois Street and McClurg Court, near North Pier Terminal. Dates were chosen to draw international collectors attending the concurrent Sotheby`s and Christie`s auctions for contemporary art in New York.
The show`s opening night will benefit Gallery 37, the city`s summer arts education program.
The show will be produced in cooperation with the Chicago Dock and Canal Trust, a real estate investment firm, and will be housed in a 65,000-square-foot temporary structure with a controlled climate and a translucent ceiling, for optimum natural light.
