Officials will meet with the Federal Aviation Administration to seek an end to O`Hare International Airport jets flying over residential areas at night despite a federal order.

After a preliminary study by a consultant determined that jets were flying over residential areas between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., the Advisory Committee on O`Hare Noise considered seeking a congressional probe, Village Trustee Arlene Mulder said. Later, village officials decided to confront the FAA.

The study monitored jet noise in Arlington Heights during June. A complete study will be released in November, Mulder said.

Under the order, planes are required to reach an altitude of 1,300 feet before air traffic controllers direct pilots to turn and fly over residential areas, Mulder said. But to further reduce jet noise, Mulder said, altitude requirements should be increased.
