Artist John Green of Hinsdale has created a wooden picnic table that`s

”set” for life. Green elevated the wooden picnic table to a piece of folk sculpture with a trompe l`oeil painting of plates of food that look good enough to eat.

Green donated the table for auction at the Hinsdale Center for the Arts`

Annual Gala Dinner Dance Saturday at the garden estate of Montefiori in Lemont.

Green, who teaches freehand airbrushing at the center, says he was only given ”a garden motif” as a parameter. ”Since I`ve painted enough flowers to last a lifetime, I thought food would be fun and interesting.”

Green`s picnic table is only one of a variety of unique objects to be auctioned at the gala. Other works include a Victorian cottage playhouse, complete with Dutch doors and window boxes, designed by architect Dennis Parsons of Parsons Associates, and built by Dressler & Associates.

Celebrity auctioneer Dick Johnson of WLS-TV will host the event, which includes cocktails and a fashion show, dinner and dancing. Tickets cost $110 per person. For reservations, call the Hinsdale Center for the Arts at 708-887-0203.
