Using Heinz-sight, Porter`s of Racine has looked to the recent past for design inspiration. This week, the home furnishings store will introduce a line of reproductions of original pieces of furniture found in many of Frank Lloyd Wright`s most famous projects. The designs have been replicated by architect Thomas A. Heinz, an authority on Wright and his work.
”Reproductions of Designs by Frank Lloyd Wright” features more than 20 classic designs from the Frederick C. Robie House (1906) in Chicago, the Avery Coonley House (1907) in Riverside, the Herbert F. Johnson House,
”Wingspread” (1937), in Racine, Wis., and Wright`s own home in Oak Park.
The initial line includes a dining room and living room collection, with a selection of lamps, decorative accessories and art items.
”There has been significant interest in Frank Lloyd Wright designs for many years, but recently we`ve seen a tremendous increase,” says Heinz, a photographer and author of books on Wright. ”Many original pieces have soared in value.” (A lamp recently brought more than $700,000 at Christie`s).
Heinz and Co. is glad to make the famed architect`s designs more accessible. (However, he is neither affiliated nor associated with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.) Prices start at about $385 (for bunching tables) to $15,810 (a cantilevered couch).
The introduction will be highlighted by Wright-oriented activities, including a free slide presentation by Heinz at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with an added show at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The store is at 6th and Wisconsin Ave. in Racine. Call 414-633-6363 for more information.
